Dongzhi County(simplified Chinese:Đông chí huyện;traditional Chinese:Đông chí huyện;pinyin:Dōngzhì Xiàn) is a county in the south ofAnhuiprovince, situated on the southeast (right) bank of theYangtzeand borderingJiangxiprovince to the south. It is under the jurisdiction of theprefecture-level cityofChizhouand occupies its southwest corner. It has a population of 530,000[when?]and an area of 3,256 square kilometres (1,257 sq mi). The government of Dongzhi County is located in Yaodu Town.
In paleontology, it is known for itsHualong Cavein which important human (called theHualongdong people[1]) and animal fossils have been discovered,[2][3]includingHomo erectus(dubbed Dongzhi Man)[4]and a 300,000-year-old archaic human (Homo sapiens).[5]

The village ofNanxiguzhai,nestled deep among the hills, is well known as the dwelling place of the descendants of a tribe of theXiongnupeople, better known in the West as theHuns.A ticket priced at RMB45 can be purchased.
