Doug and the Slugs and Meis a Canadiandocumentaryfilm, directed byTeresa Alfeldand released in 2022.[1]The film documents the history of the 1980s Canadian rock bandDoug and the Slugs,jumping off from Alfeld's own childhood friendship with bandleaderDoug Bennett's daughter Shea.[2]

In addition to the surviving band members,[2]other figures interviewed in the film about their memories of the band includeBob Geldof,Bif Naked,Steven Page,Darby Mills,Ron Sexsmith,Terry David MulliganandEd the Sock.[1]Due to Doug Bennett's death in 2004, his own perspective on the band is depicted through narration of selected excerpts from his personal journals.[3]

The film debuted on May 14, 2022, at theDOXA Documentary Film Festival.[3]Later screenings included the2022 Cinéfest Sudbury International Film Festival,[4]and the 2022Edmonton International Film Festival.[5]It was broadcast byCBC Televisionon January 15, 2023.[6]

Matt Drake and Devon Cooke received aCanadian Screen Awardnomination for Best Sound in a Documentary or Factual Program or Series at the11th Canadian Screen Awardsin 2023.[7]
