Dunavtsi(Bulgarian:Дунавци,pronounced[ˈdunɐft͡si],lit.'Danubians') is a town in northwesternBulgaria,part ofVidin Municipality,Vidin Province.It lies in the northwesternDanubian Plain,in a small valley adjacent to theDanube River.As of December 2009, the town had a population of 2,743.[1]

Dunavtsi was formed on 12 December 1955 through the merger of the villages Vidbol and Gurkovo, today regarded as town neighbourhoods. It was proclaimed anurban-type settlementon 11 September 1964 and acquiredtown privilegeson 4 September 1974. From 1949 until 1987, it was the administrative centre of a municipality, but today it is a part of Vidin municipality. TheVidbol Riverflows into the Danube southeast of the town.

Dunavtsi is anagriculturaltown located near theSofia–Vidin road, part ofEuropean route E79and IVPan-European transport corridor,and theMezdra–Vidin railway. The town has arailway stationat Vidbol and a railway stop atSinagovtsi–Gurkovo. The localeconomyis represented by afodderfactory. Since 2011, themayorhas been Dimcho Skorchev.
