TheEMD SW7was adieselswitcher locomotivebuilt byGeneral Motors Electro-Motive Divisionbetween October 1949 and January 1951.[2]It was powered by a 1,200horsepower(895kW)12-567A engine.[1]The SW7 replaced the earlier 1,000 horsepowerNW2 switcherin EMD's catalog.[3]A total of 489 SW7 locomotives were produced. The majority of the SW7s were built by EMD Plant #3 in Cleveland, Ohio.[citation needed]In addition, 15TR4cow-calfpaired sets were produced.[3]
SW7 production was discontinued in 1951 in favor of the newSW9.[2]
