TheEisack(German:Eisack,pronounced[ˈaɪzak];Italian:Isarco[iˈzarko];Latin:IsarusorIsarcus) is ariverin NorthernItaly,the second largest river inSouth Tyrol.Its source is near theBrenner Pass,at an altitude of about 1990 m abovesea level.The river draws water from an area of about 4,200 km2.After about 96 km, it joins theAdigeriver south ofBolzano.At first the river flows through theWipptaland after the village ofVahrnthrough theEisacktal.Its source is sung of in theBozner Bergsteigerliedas the northern frontier of the South Tyrolean homeland.

The first depiction of the Eisack: In 1541, the river inundated the southern areas of Bozen-Bolzano.

The major towns and villages along the course of the river areSterzing,Franzensfeste,Brixen,Klausen,Waidbruckand finally the capital city of the province. InBrixenit merges with theRienz.Several smaller creeks are tributaries, including theRidnauner Bach,thePflerscher Bach,thePfitscher Bach,theVillnößer Bach,theDerjon,theBraibach(also known as Tierser Bach), theEggentaler Bachand theTalferflowing fromSarntal.

The Eisack is used extensively for the production of electricity; it is dammed nearFranzensfeste,KlausenandWaidbruck.
