Elaine Shenton(nee Watson) is a British formertennisplayer.
Career
[edit]Shenton grew up inHertfordshireand was a British junior champion.[1]She was doubles champion at theItalian championshipsin 1954, partneringPat Ward.[2]In 1955 she won the singles titles at both theScottish ChampionshipsandWelsh Covered Court Championships.[3]She was runner-up toAnn Haydonin the singles final at theNorth of England Championshipsin 1956.[4]At the1956 Wimbledon Championships,Shenton won through to the fourth round, before losing to eventual finalistAngela Buxton.[5]In 1957 she won theChapel Allerton OpeninLeeds.She was ranked as high as sixth in Great Britain.[1]
