Eli Baxter

Eli Baxter(born 1954) is a Canadian writer,[1]who won theGovernor General's Award for English-language non-fictionat the2022 Governor General's Awardsfor his memoirAki-wayn-zih: A Person as Worthy as the Earth.[2]

Baxter, anAnishinaabemember of theMarten Falls First Nationand a survivor of theCanadian Indian residential school system,[3]he has taught indigenous language and culture at both the elementary school and university levels,[3]most notably at theUniversity of Western Ontario.[1]
