Elizabeth Toth

Elizabeth Lance Tothis professor emeritus at theUniversity of Maryland, College Parkknown for her work on public relations research.

Education and career

Toth has a B.A. fromNorthwestern Universityand an M.A. and a Ph.D fromPurdue University.[1]She worked in public relations from 1969 until 1981, before moving into academia.[2]Toth taught atSouthern Methodist UniversityandSouthern Illinois University,and was the associate dean of the S. I. Newhouse School of Public Communications atSyracuse University.[3]In 2004[1]she joined the University of Maryland where she was professor and chair of the Department of Communication.[4]As of 2022, Toth is an emeritus professor at the University of Maryland, College Park.[5]

Toth was the editor of theJournal of Public Relations Researchfrom 1995 until 2000.[6]

She is known for her work on the role of women and gender in public relations.[7]

Awards and honors

In 2012 she was honored by theUniversity of Alabama's Plank Center.[1]In 2020, thePublic Relations Society of Americapresented Toth with the Sage Award.[3]
