Eric Christian Olsen(born May 31, 1977) is an American actor. He is known for his portrayals ofInvestigator Marty Deekson theCBStelevision seriesNCIS: Los Angeles,Austin in the filmNot Another Teen Movie,and Lloyd Christmas inDumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd.
Early life
[edit]Olsen was born inEugene, Oregon,the son of Jeanne (née Donstad), anon-denominationalchaplain,and Paul V. Olsen, a professor of English, and head track and cross country coach ofAugustana CollegeinRock Island, Illinois.[2][3]He has an older brother, David, who acts as his stunt double; David is married to actress and Olsen'sNCIS: Los AngelescostarDaniela Ruah.[4]Olsen is ofNorwegiandescent.[5]Olsen spent most of his childhood inBettendorf, Iowa,and attended Bettendorf Middle andHigh School,where he pursued interests such assports,Japanese,andChinese.[6]In addition to many local theatre performances, Olsen trained in improv withComedySportzQuad Cities and later joined the cast.
Career
[edit]Olsen's first starring role was the title role in the 1999 TV movieArthur's Quest,soon after he gave an Emmy submitted portrayal of a dying burn victim on NBC'sER.His next role was a small one in HBO'sBlack Cat Run.He soon landed a starring role in the Fox TV seriesGet Real,playing Cameron Green. The series lasted for a year before he made his transition onto the big screen when he playedBen Affleck's gunner inPearl Harbor,that was quickly followed by a leading role as Austin "The Cocky Blond Guy" in the teen send up feature filmNot Another Teen Movie.
Olsen next played Jake in the teen comedyThe Hot Chick.In 2003, he won the role of Lloyd Christmas inDumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd,the prequel to the hit movieDumb and Dumber.Olsen followed that up by playing oppositeChris Evansfor a second time inCellular.He starred in the yet to be releasedMojaveand then joined the final season of Fox'sTru Calling.He claimed three highly contrasting roles in 2006 and 2007 with the release ofBeerfest,License to Wedand Zach Braff'sThe Last Kiss.Olsen co-starred as Sully in theFoxsitcomThe Loop.Olsen had four other projects in 2008 and continues to reside in Malibu, California.
In 2009, he appeared in several episodes of the first season of theCommunitysitcom, as Vaughn, a usually shirtless, neo-hippie student, musician, and athlete.[7]Olsen appeared onWill FerrellandAdam McKay's streaming video websiteFunny or Die,with a small series of segments featuring a character called Perry Hilton, a parody ofParis Hilton.He starred in the 2011 science-fiction horror filmThe Thing.[8]
Olsen portrayedDetective Marty Deekson theCBSshowNCIS: Los Angeles.His character appeared in two episodes of season one before joining the cast as a series regular in the second season.[9]Olsen's sister-in-law,Daniela Ruah,is one of his co-stars.
Olsen is a producer of a short filmBaldfrom 2014 and executive producer of a documentaryAndy Irons: Kissed by Godfrom 2018.[10][11]He has his ownproduction companyCloud Nine Productions. In 2019 he started his first show as an executive producer picked up in production for Hulu calledWoke.[12]
Olsen made his writing debut with the season 11 episode 10 (the 250th overall episode) ofNCIS: Los Angelestitled "Mother", which aired December 1, 2019.[13][14]
Personal life
[edit]Olsen became engaged to actressSarah Wrightin October 2011.[15]They were married nearJackson Hole,Wyoming,on June 23, 2012.[16]They have a son and two daughters.[17][18][19][20]
Olsen and Wright were featured in a 2015 episode of theHGTVseriesHouse Huntersbuying a vacation home near Jackson Hole.[21]Olsen works with the charityHats Off for Canceras an Honorary Board Member and Spokesperson, featured on their Public Service Announcement video.[22][23]He and his wife Sarah are members of Board of Directors ofEnvironmental Media Awards.[24]
