Erich Josef Gliebe(born May 23, 1963) is an American former boxer,Neo-Nazi[1]and former chairman of theNational Alliance.[2]In his youth, he was a professional boxer by the ring name of "The Aryan Barbarian".[1]
Biography
[edit]Erich Gliebe's political views were influenced by his father, who served in the GermanWehrmachtduringWorld War II.He became active within the National Alliance, a white nationalist, antisemitic and white supremacist political organization in the United States.[3]As leader of theClevelandNational Alliance Local Unit, he was hired byWilliam Pierceto run the White-power music labelResistance Recordsafter theNational Alliancebought full ownership of it in 1999.
Following Pierce's death in July 2002, Gliebe was appointed the new Chairman by the Board of Directors.[4]He quickly began to alienate members, causing a backlash within the NA leadership.[5]Although Gliebe briefly handed over leadership to Shaun Walker, he resumed control after Walker was charged with Civil Rights violations.[6]Under Gliebe's leadership, the National Alliance's membership decline precipitously. He orchestrated the sale of itsHillsboro, West Virginiaproperty, and halted its operations as a "membership organization".[7]
In April 2009, it was revealed that Gliebe's name was on thelist of people banned from entering the United Kingdom.[8]
He was married toPlayboymodel Erika Gliebe.[9]
Boxing career
[edit]Gliebe was undefeated in five professional fights in the light-heavyweight division over a period of three years. His bouts were at venues within West Virginia. Four fights were won byTKOand one fight was won by a split decision.[10]
