Ernie Farrow
Ernest Farrow(November 13, 1928 – July 14, 1969) was a jazz bassist who occasionally played other instruments. His half-sister wasAlice Coltrane.[1]
Early life
[edit]Farrow was born inHuntington, West Virginia,on November 13, 1928.[1]He started on piano before adding bass and drums.[2]In his teens he had piano lessons from an uncle, Charles Lewis, who was a professional pianist.[2]During high school he formed his own bands.[2]
Later life and career
[edit]Farrow's career as a professional musician began in the early 1950s,[2]playing withTerry Gibbsin 1954 andStan Getzthe following year.[1]He then played withYusef Lateef,recording with him during the period 1957–64.[1]For Lateef, he also played other instruments, including the rabat.[2]Farrow performed in his own groups, and was bassist in pianistRed Garland's band in 1960.[1][2]He died in a swimming accident on July 14, 1969.[1]
