Eunymphicusis a genus ofparrotsin the familyPsittaculidae.The genus isendemictoNew Caledoniaand theLoyalty Islands,and is closely related to theCyanoramphusparakeets ofOceania.
Taxonomy
[edit]The genusEunymphicuswas introduced in 1937 by the American ornithologistJames L. Peterswith thehorned parakeetas thetype species.[1]The name combines theAncient Greekeumeaning "true" and the genus nameNymphicusthat had been introduce in 1832 byJohann Georg Waglerfor thecockatiel.[2]
