Florin Lucian Tănase(Romanian pronunciation:[floˈrinlutʃiˈantəˈnase];born 30 December 1994) is a Romanian professionalfootballerwho plays as aforwardor anattacking midfielderforLiga IclubFCSBand for theRomania national team.

Tănase started out as a senior in 2013, while on loan fromViitorul Constanțaatthird leagueclubVoluntari.He went on to appear in over 70Liga Igames with the former, before transferring toFCSBin 2016 for €1.5 million. In the2020–21and2021–22 seasons,Tănase finished as the league's top goalscorer.

Internationally, Tănase made his full debut forRomaniain a 1–0friendlyvictory overAlbaniain May 2014, aged 19.

On 23 February 2014, aged 19, Tănase scored his firstLiga Igoal forViitorul Constanțain a 2–1 away win againstDinamo București.[2]

FCSB

On 8 August 2016,FCSB—signed Tănase on a five-year deal for a reported €1.5 million transfer fee, with Viitorul Constanța retaining 25% interest on a future move.[3][4]He was assigned thenumber 10 jerseyand scored on debut four days later, in a 2–0 away victory overBotoșani.[5]

Tănase scored his firstEuropeangoal for theRoș-albaștriion 2 August 2017, in a 4–1 away victory overViktoria Plzeňin theUEFA Champions Leaguethird qualifying round.[6]

In the2020–21 season,Tănase netted 24 times to become the league's top scorer, and was thus named in the Liga I Team of the Year.[7]

On 25 April 2022, Tănase scored his first professionalhat-trickin a 4–0 away victory over his former team Viitorul Constanța, now named Farul. He went on to finish as Liga I top scorer for thesecond campaignin a row, after netting 20 times.

On 6 August 2022, Emirati clubAl Jaziraannounced the signing of Tănase after meeting his €3 millionrelease clause.[8]

Al-Okhdood

On 5 August 2023, Tănase joinedSaudi Pro LeagueclubAl-Okhdoodon a free transfer.[9]

International career

On 31 May 2014, Tănase earned his firstcapforRomania national teamin a 1–0friendlywin overAlbania,coming on as an 83rd-minutesubstituteforAlexandru Maxim.[10]He appeared sparingly for the country in the following years, and only scored his first goal on 25 March 2021, in a 3–2 defeat ofNorth Macedoniain the2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.[11]

Style of play

Tănase is a versatile footballer who can occupy several positions along thefront-line,but has stated that prefers to be deployed as anadvanced playmaker.[12]Romanian manager and former playerGheorghe Hagiregarded him as one of the most promising talents of his generation;[13]in spite of this, Tănase has been accused by opponents and media alike of excessivediving,especially during his time at FCSB.[14][15][16]
