Francis Noel Duffy(born 21 April 1971)[1][2]is an IrishGreen Partypolitician who has been aTeachta Dála(TD) forDublin South-Westsince the2020 general election.[3]

Early life and education

Duffy was born inKingston upon Thames,Greater London.His family moved back to Ireland where they settled inCarrickmacross,County Monaghan.He attended the Patrician High School. He then went on to study Architecture atLondon South Bank Universityand completed aBachelor of Scienceat the Dublin School of Architecture (atDublin Institute of Technology), where he has since taught.[4]

Political career

Duffy was an unsuccessful candidate for Dublin South-West at the2011 general election,the2014 Dublin South-West by-election,and the2016 general election.He was elected for Dublin South-West at the2020 general election.[5][6]He served as a member ofSouth Dublin County Councilfrom 2014 to 2020 for theRathfarnhamandFirhouseareas.

In a September 2023 interview withTheJournal.ie,Duffy likened a proposed reintroduction of an eviction ban (with exemptions for landlords where the property was needed for 'a relative') to communism, stating "Well then it turns into a communist state, that’s what you are talking about. So we purchase everybody’s property, is it?"[7]

Personal life

Duffy is married to fellow Green Party TDCatherine Martin;they have three children.[4]
