TheGB4 Championshipis asingle seatermotorsport series based in the United Kingdom. The championship is operated byMotorSport Visionwith support from theBRDC,and is aimed at young drivers graduating from karting or club level motorsport such asFormula Ford.The championship was announced in September 2021 and the first season started atSnettertonin April 2022.[1][2]
History
[edit]The championship was launched in September 2021, and is designed to be a low-cost alternative to Formula 4 championships. A total of 12 teams have stated intentions to race in thefirst season.[3]
The Tatuus F4-T014 car will be used by all competitors, and operated by teams or the competitors themselves. All cars will be powered byAbarthengines and usePirellityres.
The first round of the inaugural season took place atSnetterton Circuiton 2 April 2022, with the first winner being Nikolas Taylor driving forFortec Motorsports.[4]
Car
[edit]The GB4 Championship uses theTatuus F4-T014car previously used by theItalian,ADAC,Spanishand otherF4championships across Europe.[5]
The engine is anAbarth-branded, turbocharged Autotecnica Motori 1.4L FTJI4and produces 160hp.It features a sequential six-speed gearbox developed bySadevandMagneti Marellielectronics.[6]
Starting in2025,the series will introduce theTatuusMSV GB4-025, a modified version of theTatuusMSV-022, used by theGB3 Championshipfrom 2022 to 2024.[7]The new chassis will feature aMountune2.0L engine.[7]
Points system
[edit]Points are awarded to the top 20 classified finishers in races one and two, with the third race awarding points to only the top 15. Race three, which has its grid formed by reversing the qualifying order, awards extra points for positions gained from the drivers' respective starting positions.
