Gavin Crawford(born 2 April 1971) is aCanadiancomedianand actor, best known forThe Gavin Crawford ShowandThis Hour Has 22 Minutes.[1]He currently hosts thepanel show,Because News,onCBC Radio One.
Early life
[edit]Crawford was born inTaber, Alberta,Canada.[2]He is a graduate of the BFA Acting Program at theUniversity of British Columbia.
Career
[edit]An alumnus ofThe Second City'sTorontocompany,[2]Crawford is the creator, co-writer and co-star of the self-titled series, which ran for three seasons onThe Comedy Network.In 2000 and 2001, he was also a cast member of the short-livedAmericansketch seriesHype.[3]In 2003, he joined the cast ofThis Hour Has 22 Minutes,filling in forMary Walshduring her time away from the show. In 2004, Crawford was made a full-time cast member ofThis Hour Has 22 Minutes.
Crawford hosted the 2008 Canadian Screenwriting Awards[4]and the Canadian version ofHow Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?,which aired onCBC Televisionin the summer of 2008. Additionally, Crawford performed in guest appearances onMurdoch Mysteries,Made in Canada,Heartland,The Red Green ShowandCorner Gas,and in the filmFrench Immersion.
In 2013, Crawford participated inSalvatore Antonio'sTruth/Dare: A Satire (With Dance),an interactiveaudience participationshow which featured staged reenactments of scenes fromMadonna's 1991 filmTruth or Dare,at Buddies in Bad Times during Toronto'sPride Week.[5]The show's cast also includedKeith ColeandAdamo Ruggiero.[5]
In 2014, he starred in Maureen Bradley's filmTwo 4 Oneas Adam, atrans manwho winds up unexpectedly pregnant,[6]and in the sitcom24 Hour Rentalas J.R.
Beginning in 2015, he is the host of the comedy news quiz seriesBecause NewsonCBC Radio One.[7]
In 2023, Crawford producedLet's Not Be Kidding,an autobiographicalpodcastabout his relationship with his mother who is experiencing advancingAlzheimer's disease.[8]

He was nominated four times for aGemini Award,which he won in December 2004 for his work onThe Gavin Crawford Show(he was nominated twice in 2004, also forThis Hour Has 22 Minutes). His comedy specialGavin Crawford's Wild West,which aired onCBC Televisionin 2013, garnered severalCanadian Screen Awardnominations at the2nd Canadian Screen Awards,including a Best Actor in a Comedy Program or Series nod for Crawford.[9]
