Gay Claitman

Gay Claitmanis a Canadian sketch comedian and writer, who won twoACTRA Awardsfor Radio Variety Performance and Radio Variety Writing at the8th ACTRA Awardsin 1979 for her work withNancy Whiteand Robert Cameron on the radio playLies My Mother Told Me.[1]

She first became known for her work alongsideJohn Morgan,Martin Bronstein,Patrick ConlonandRoger Abbottas a member of The Jest Society,[2]leaving the troupe before it evolved intoRoyal Canadian Air Farce.[3]

In 1975 she performed at the Merry Posa Revue, a comedy revue staged in honour of influential Canadian humoristStephen Leacock.[4]In 1976, she was a creator of theCBC Radiocomedy seriesPulp and PaperwithPaul K. WillisandMichael Boncoeur.[5]In 1979, Claitman and White created the CBC Radio comedy seriesGee, That's a Cute Dress Marjene,[6]and in 1980 they created the stage comedy revueLittle Pink Lies.[7]

She was a cast member of Willis and Boncoeur's radio comedy specialsIf You Love This Governmentin 1984[8]andThe Year of Living Obnoxiouslyin 1985,[9]with the cast ofIf You Love This Governmentreceiving an ACTRA nomination for Best Radio Variety Performance at the15th ACTRA Awardsin 1986.[10]

She also had small supporting acting roles in the filmsHead Office(1985) andMama's Going to Buy You a Mockingbird(1986).
