Gentleman of Stratfordis a 1939historical novelby the British writerJohn Brophy.[1]It is a fictional account of the life ofWilliam Shakespeare.Brophy carefully researched the novel to use existingdocumentaryevidence about the playwright.[2]The novel was published in the United States byHarper.It helped launch Brophy's career as a novelist.[3]AuthorHugh Walpoledescribed it as "the best biographical novel yet written about Shakespeare".[4]
