René Gaston Georges Maspero(21 August 1872 – 21 September 1942) was a Frenchsinologist.
He was the son of egyptologistGaston Masperoand half brother of sinologistHenri Maspero.
A colonial governor ofFrench Indochina,he was appointed résident-mayor ofHaiphong,then actingresident superior(15 April 1920 – 6 December 1920)[1]ofCambodia.He subsequently chaired the restructuredBanque Industrielle de Chinefollowing its bankruptcy in 1921.
He was among the founders of theÉcole française d'Extrême-Orient(EFEO).
