Ghimire(Nepali:घिमिरे)is one of the surnames of theBrahmin(upadhya bahun) varna belonging toKashyap Gotrain theHindu Varna System.The earliest known ancestor, the royal priest Gudpal Vyas (also known by Gudpal Bias), lived in Ghamir, Dhurkot, (now calledGhamir,Gulmi,Nepal) who moved fromUjjain,which was ruled by KingVikramaditya,ancient city situated on the eastern bank of theKshipra Riverin theMalwaregion of central India.[1]Which is today part of thestateofMadhya Pradesh,and it is the administrative centre ofUjjain DistrictandUjjain Division. Research Scholar, Parashu Ram Ghimire argues that the Brahmins who migrated from Ghamir to Musikot were called Ghamire/Ghimire, later in Musikot. In this logic claims Ghimire first started in Musikot.
Etymology

Their surname changed according to the places they lived.Kashyapa Rishiis their earliest ancestor and their sons are called as Kashyapai lived inKaskikot,now inKaski, Nepal.When Kashyapai moved toUjjain,in theMalwaRegion (now inMadhya PradeshIndia), they took the surname Bias (or Vyas).Sandipani Biaswas a notableRishi,theGuruofLord KrishnaandBalarama.The surname Bias can still be seen in parts ofIndia.When Gudpal Bias moved toward Nepal, and lived inDhamir,Mr.Sarbeshwor Ghimirefrom Sindhuli strongly claims that the place is "Ghamir" not 'Dhamir' Dhurkot, their sons are called as Ghamire and simultaneously into Ghimire. The three genealogical Rishis (Tripravar) are Kashyapa, Avatsara, Naidhruva.
