Club career

[edit]Having been born in Chiari, he commenced his career playing for thePalazzoloscuola calcio,[1]to continue atBresciaaged 10.[2]He joined theAtalanta Youth Sectorin 2015.[3]On 8 November 2020, Scalvini was called up for aSerie Amatch againstInter Milanfrom thefirst squad's managerGian Piero Gasperini,though remained an unused substitute.[3]On 21 January 2021, Scalvini won the Supercup with the U19 team, defeatingFiorentina3–1 in the final.[3][4]
First team breakthrough
[edit]Scalvini debuted for Atalanta on 24 October 2021, aged 17, in aSerie Amatch draw 1–1 at home againstUdinese,coming on as substitute in the 85th minute.[5]On 7 April 2022, Scalvini debuted in theUEFA Europa Leaguein a match drawn 1–1 against German clubRB Leipzig.[6]Later that month, on 18 April, Scalvini scored his first goal in his career in Atalanta's 2–1 defeat toVerona.[7]On 5 October 2023, he scored his first goal in European competitions in a 2–1 away victory overSporting CPduring theEuropa League group stage.[8]
On 22 May 2024, he made a second-half substitute appearance in Atalanta's 3–0 victory over German championsBayer Leverkusenin the2024 UEFA Europa League final.[9]On 2 June, he scored his first goal of the2023–24 Serie Ain a 3–2 home defeat againstFiorentinaon the final matchday, in which he sustained a knee injury late in the match.[10]
International career
[edit]Scalvini represented Italy internationally atunder-15,[11]under-16,[12]under-17,[13]andunder-19levels.[14]
He made his debut with theItaly U21on 16 November 2021, aged 17, playing as a starter in afriendly matchwon 4–2 againstRomaniainFrosinone.
On 24 January 2022, Scalvini accepted a call-up byItaly national teammanagerRoberto Mancinito join theAzzurrifor a three-day training camp inCoverciano.[15]He made his debut with the senior national team as a second-half substitute in a 5–2 loss againstGermanyon 14 June 2022.[16]
On 23 May 2024, he was named in the 30-man preliminary squad for theUEFA Euro 2024.[17]However, on 2 June, he sustained an ACL injury, withdrawing him from the preliminary squad, thus, ruling him out of the tournament.[18]
Style of play
[edit]Scalvini is a centre-back who has a good technique and is good atheaderswith his height of 1.94 metres (6 ft 4 in).[19]He has also been likened toAlessandro Bastoni.[3]
