Goebbels gap

TheGoebbels gapis an Internetadagedefined as the amount of time between a negative event in the world and when someoneblames it on the Jews.[1]Promulgated by the American writerYair Rosenberg,then a senior writer atTabletmagazine, in 2019, it is seen as a proof point of seemingly everyconspiracy theoryeventually targeting theJews.[1]It is named forNazichief propagandistJoseph Goebbels,who engineered the deeply virulent antisemitic propaganda of theThird Reich.

Usage[edit]

Rosenberg has cited as examples of the Goebbels gap the 10 day period between theSeptember 11 attacksand when antisemitic conspiracy theories began to emerge ofIsrael's culpability in the attacks,[1]andIranian PresidentHasan Rouhaniclaiming Israel supported theIslamic Statein 2019.[2]It has also been cited in reference to claims, including bywhite supremacistDavid Duke,Turkish politicianFatih Erbakan,[3]and academicAs'ad AbuKhalil,that Israel or "Zionists" were behind theCOVID-19 virus.[4]
