GourimanohariorGaurimanohariis aragaminCarnatic music(musical scale of South Indian classical music). It is the 23rdMelakartarāgam in the 72melakartarāgam system of Carnatic music. The 23rdmelakartarāgam as perMuthuswami Dikshitarschool of music isGourivelāvaḻi.
The Western equivalent is themelodic minor scale.
TheHindustani musicequivalent to this rāgam is RaagPatdeep.
Structure and Lakshana
[edit]It is the 5th rāgam in the 4thchakra Veda.The mnemonic name isVeda-Ma.The mnemonic phrase issa ri gi ma pa dhi nu.[1]Itsārohaṇa-avarohaṇastructure (ascending and descending scale) is as follows (seeswarasin Carnatic musicfor details on below notation and terms):
The notes used in this scale areshadjam, chatushruti rishabham, sadharana gandharam, shuddha madhyamam, panchamam, chatushruti daivatamandkakali nishadham.It is asampurnarāgam– a rāgam that has all sevenswaras(notes). It is theshuddha madhyamamequivalent ofDharmavati,which is the 59thmelakarta.
