Freemasonry in Venezuela

Freemasonry has been present in Venezuela since 1824 and has included a number of prominent politicians.

TheGran Logia de la Republica de VenezuelaorGrand Lodgeof the republic ofVenezuelafounded in 1824, is based inCaracas. It claims 121 Lodges as of 2006.[1]It is a member of the Confederación Masónica Interamericana and the Confederación Masónica Bolivariana.[2]

After the split between Colombia and Venezuela the Grand Lodge was refounded for Venezuela in 1838. Its first Grand Master was Diego Bautista Urbaneja Sturdy, who had been Vice President.[3]
