Career
[edit]After finishing high school inBuenos Aires, Argentinain 1985, Borner went toBoston, United Statesto attendBerklee College of Music,graduating with a double major in Music Production and Engineering and Film Scoring.[1][2]In 1989, he moved toLos Angeles, United States,where he has resided ever since, he began working as engineer with Argentine producerBebu Silvettiin different albums by mainlyLatin popartists such asLuis Miguel,Plácido DomingoandDaniela Romo,among others.[2]
During the 90s, he worked with several Argentine artists likeEnanitos Verdes,Los Pericos,Los Auténticos Decadentes,La Rengaand Los Calzones Rotos, allowing him to gain recognition within Latin America.[2]In 1996, Borner opened Igloo Music Studios inLos Angeles,a set of studios destined to the recording and production of albums as well as film scores.[3]Borner has worked in the score of severalWalt Disney Companyfilms, includingHercules(1997) andTarzan(1999), working in the latter alongsidePhil Collinsfor the recording of the songs in different languages.[4]
Borner has participated in several albums from theMTV Unpluggedseries, including with artists likeJuanes,Ricky Martin,Pepe AguilarandLos Tigres del Norte.[1]Additionally, he has collaborated in various live albums likeInsoportablemente Vivo(2001) byLa Renga,Hola/Chau(2000) byLos Fabulosos Cadillacs,En Vivo(2000) andEn Vivo, Vol. 2(2001) byMarco Antonio SolísandHecho en México - En Vivo en el Palacio de los Deportes – 25 Aniversario(2012) byLos Autenticos Decadentes.[5]ForJuanes'sMTV Unplugged(2012), Borner wonAlbum of the Yearas engineer, mixer and mastering engineer.[6]
Aside from albums by singers, Borner has continued to work in several film scores likeRush Hour(1998) and its sequels,Watchmen(2009),Guardians of the Galaxy(2014) andDeadpool 2(2018), amons others, as well as video game scores.[1]For his work as scoring mixer inAlejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu'sBirdman(2014), Borner won theGrammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Mediaand theCinema Audio Society Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sound Mixing for a Motion Picture – Live Action.[7][8]
