Hædde[a](died 705) was a medieval monk andBishop of Winchester.

Life

Hædde is believed to have been born inHeadingley,Leeds,and became a monk ofWhitby Abbey.[1][2] He became bishop in 676 and died about 7 July 705,[3]although theAnglo-Saxon Chroniclestates that he died in 703.[4]In the law code of KingIne of Wessex,the bishop is mentioned as contributing to the laws.[5]After his death, he was revered as a saint with a feast day of 7 July,[6]and his large diocese was split in two,[7]part of the area forming theDiocese of Sherborne.[8]
