HD 171301is a suspectedbinary star[11]system in the northernconstellationofLyra. It has not been well-studied.[5]The brighter member of the pair, designated component A,[3]has a blue-white hue and is visible to the naked eye with anapparent visual magnitudeof 5.47.[2]The system is located at a distance of approximately 347light yearsfrom theSunbased onparallax, but is drifting closer with aradial velocityof −10 km/s.[6]
Thestellar classificationof HD 171301 is B8IV,[4]matching alateB-type starthat may be asubgiantthat isevolvingoff themain sequence.HD 171301 appears to be a type ofchemically peculiarmercury-manganese star.[5]It has an estimated mass three[7]times that of the Sun and 2.7 times the Sun's radius.[8]The star is spinning with aprojected rotational velocityof 36 km/s.[5]It is radiating 124[7]times the luminosity of the Sun from itsphotosphereat aneffective temperatureof 11,695 K.[7]
Its companion, component B, is a 13th magnitude star of an unknown spectral type.[12]It was first reported byS. W. Burnhamin 1891. As of 1998, it was located at anangular separationof6.7arcsecondsfrom the brighter star along aposition angleof 157°.[3]
