HMSBullen(K 469)was aCaptain-classfrigateof theRoyal NavyduringWorld War II.She was named afterCharles Bullenwho was captain ofHMSBritanniaat theBattle of Trafalgar. Originally laid down as DE-78, aturbo-electric(TE) typeBuckley-classdestroyer escort,she was diverted to theRoyal Navyand named HMSBullenbefore the launch.

Sinking

While part of the 19thEscort Group,Bullenwas torpedoed by theGerman submarineU-775northwest of Strathy Point,Sutherland,Scotland on 6 December 1944, striking her midships. Of the crew of HMSBullen,71 died and 97 survived. The wrecksite is designated as a 'protected place' under theProtection of Military Remains Act 1986.
