HOXB5
Appearance
Homeobox protein Hox-B5is aproteinthat in humans is encoded by theHOXB5gene.[5][6][7]
Function
[edit]This gene is a member of theAntphomeobox family and encodes anuclear proteinwith ahomeoboxDNA-binding domain. It is included in aclusterof homeobox B genes located onchromosome 17.The encoded protein functions as a sequence-specifictranscription factorthat is involved in lung and gut development. Increasedexpression of this geneis associated with a distinct biologic subset ofacute myeloid leukemia (AML)and the occurrence ofbronchopulmonary sequestration (BPS)and congenitalcystic adenomatoid malformation (CCAM)tissue.[7]
