Happy and Gloriouswas a 1952 British television series which aired on the BBC. It starredRenée AshersonasQueen VictoriaandMichael AldridgeasPrince Albert.The series aired live, and the transmissions were not recorded.[1]The oldest surviving examples of British television drama come from 1953, consisting of two episodes ofThe Quatermass Experimentand two or three episodes ofSunday-Night Theatre,recording using the then-experimentaltelerecordingprocess. Half the scripts were byLaurence Housman,drawn from his 1934 playVictoria Regina,also adapted for BBC Radio in 1981 under the titleHappy and Glorious.[2]
