Heather Goodall,AM,FRSN,FASSAis an Australian academic and historian. She is Emeritus Professor at theUniversity of Technology Sydney.Her research and writing focuses on Indigenous and environmental history and intercolonial networks.

Goodall graduated from theUniversity of Sydneyin 1975 and was awarded the University Medal in History. She received a PhD from the same university in 1982 for her thesis "A History of Aboriginal Communities in New South Wales, 1909–1939".[1][2]

Awards and recognition

Goodall won the inaugural Australian History Prize at theNew South Wales Premier's History Awardsin 1997 forInvasion to Embassy[3]and aRona Tranby Awardin 1998. She won theMagarey Medal for biographyin 2005 forIsabel Flick,co-written by the subject,Isabel Flick.[4]

Goodall was elected aFellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australiain 2007.[3]She is also a Fellow of theRoyal Society of New South Wales.[5]

Rivers and Resiliencewas shortlisted for the Community and Regional History Prize at the New South Wales Premier's History Awards in 2010.[3]

Goodall was appointed aMember of the Order of Australiain the2024 King's Birthday Honoursfor "significant service to tertiary education, particularly social science, and to the Indigenous community".[6]
