Henry H. Chambers(October 1, 1790 – January 24, 1826) was an American politician, who served as theJacksonianU.S. senatorfrom thestateofAlabamafrom March 4, 1825 until his death. He was replaced byIsrael Pickensuntil a replacement,John McKinley,could be elected.

Biography

Henry Chambers was born on October 1, 1790, inLunenburg County, Virginia.He attended and graduated from theCollege of William and Maryin 1808 and from theUniversity of Pennsylvania School of MedicineinPhiladelphiain 1811. Chambers moved toMadison, Alabamaand began practicing medicine. After serving in theAmerican Indian Warsas asurgeon,he returned to Alabama, settling inHuntsville.He served as a member of theAlabama Constitutional Conventionin 1819 and in theAlabama House of Representativesin 1820.

After unsuccessfully running forGovernor of Alabamain1821and1823,Chambers was elected as aJacksonianto represent the state in theUnited States Senate.He assumed office on March 4, 1825, until his death. He died on January 24, 1826, atFlat RocknearKenbridge, Virginia,while en route toWashington, D.C.Chambers was interred in the family burial ground at Flat Rock.
