Hitoshi Iwaaki(Japanese:Nham minh quân,Hepburn:Iwaaki Hitoshi,born July 28, 1960)is a Japanesemanga artist,whose works include the science-fiction/horror seriesParasyte.
Career[edit]
During high school, he was reading a lot of manga byOsamu Tezuka,which inspired him to begin drawing manga himself. He began working as an assistant for manga artistKazuo Kamimurain 1984. In 1985, his short story "Gomi no Umi" won the newcomer awardTetsuya Chiba Awardand was published in a special edition ofMorningmagazine. Since then, he has worked mainly forKodansha,especiallyMonthly Afternoonmagazine.[1]
In 1993, Iwaaki received theKodansha Manga AwardforParasyte.[2]In 2010,Historietook the grand prize in the manga division of theJapan Media Arts Festival.[3]Historiealso earned him the 2012Tezuka Osamu Cultural PrizeGrand Prize.[4]Iwaaki won the 2020Saito Takao Awardfor his work onReiri.[5]
