Hosh al-Basha(Arabic:حوش الباشا,romanized:hawsh al-basha,lit.'courtyard of thepasha'), also Hosh el-Basha, Hawsh al-Basha, or Hosh el-Pasha),[1][2]is amausoleumof the royal family ofMuhammad Ali Pashaat road al-ImamAl-Shafi‘iin theSouthern CemeteryofCairo,Egypt.[3]

Description

Hosh al-Pasha was built in 1854 to house severaltombsof theMuhammad Ali dynasty’s family, relatives, and devoted servants.[4]The structure is a multi-domed complex with inner courtyards and chambers heavily decorated byIslamicmotifs,colors and precious materials that still show much of the original luxurious and rich state of the place.[4]

Some of the members of the Muhammad Ali dynasty buried in Hosh al-Basha areIbrahim Pasha,Tusun Pasha,Isma'il Pasha,Sa'id Pasha,Abbas I,Ahmad Rifaat Pashaand his daughterAyn-al-Hayat Rifaat,andMohammed Ali Tewfik.
