Howrah Unionis an Indianmultisports clubbased in the city ofKolkata,whosefootballteam competes in theCalcutta Football League.[1][2][3]The club previously competed in Super Division of CFL.[4][5]Theircricketteam plays in the CAB tournaments.[6]
History
[edit]Howrah Union club was formed in 1922, by Panchanon Choungda fromAmta, Howrah.[7]Initially they played football at Howrah Maidan and eventually got affiliation from theIndian Football Associationand joinedCalcutta Football League.[1][8]They got promoted to the First Division in 1929 and won theTrades Cupin 1932.[7]In the 1936IFA Shield,they went till the semi-finals by defeating the 1933 winnersDuke of Cornwall's Light Infantry.[1]
They shifted to their current ground at the Kolkata Maidan in 1962 which they share withMohammedan Sporting.Russi Mody,the former chairman and managing director ofTata Steeland a prominent member of theTata Groupwas a longtime President of the club.[9][10]

[edit]Howrah Union has its men'scricketsection, which is affiliated with theCricket Association of Bengal,[33]and competes in the CAB Second Division League.[34][35][36]
Field hockey
[edit]Men's hockey team of the club is affiliated to Bengal Hockey Association (known as 'Hockey Bengal'), and competes in theCalcutta Hockey League.[37][38][39]
Volleyball
[edit]Howrah Union also operate men's volleyball team that participates in Elliot Shield State Volleyball Championship in Kolkata.[40]
