Hozat(Ottoman Turkish:خوزات,[1]Kurdish:Xozat) is a municipality (belde) and seat ofHozat DistrictinTunceli Province,Turkey.[2]It is populated byKurdsand had a population of 3,634 in 2021.[3][4]

Seyfi Geyik from theRepublican People's Party(CHP) was elected mayor in thelocal elections in March 2019.[5]

The town is divided into the neighborhoods of Diyap Ağa, Fikripaşa, Köprübaşı and Yenimahalle.[2]

History

In the 10th century, it was known asChozanon(Greek:Χόζανον), and formed athemaafter its conquest by theByzantine Empireshortly after 938.[6]Near the city are the ruins of the Ergen church which according toRudawwas erected by Armenians 1300 years ago.[7]
