INSAT-3DRis an Indian weather satellite built by theIndian Space Research Organisationand operated by theIndian National Satellite System.[2]It will provide meteorological services to India using a 6-channel imager and a 19-channel sounder, as well assearch and rescueinformation and message relay for terrestrial data collection platforms.[3]The satellite was launched on 8 September 2016, and is a follow-up toINSAT-3D.

Launch[edit]

INSAT-3DR was successfully launched on 8 September 2016 at 11:20 UTC aboard aGeosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle(GSLV Mk II) from theSatish Dhawan Space Centre,[4][5]which was delayed from 28 August.[6]The rocket placed it into ageostationary transfer orbitfor eventual stationing ingeosynchronous orbitat 74° E.[3]
