ISO 3166-2:NG

ISO 3166-2:NGis the entry forNigeriainISO 3166-2,part of theISO 3166standardpublished by theInternational Organization for Standardization(ISO), which definescodesfor the names of the principalsubdivisions(e.g.,provincesorstates) of allcountriescoded inISO 3166-1.

Currently for Nigeria, ISO 3166-2 codes are defined for1 capital territory and 36 states.TheFederal Capital Territorycontains the capital of the countryAbujaand has special status equal to the states.[citation needed]

Each code consists of two parts, separated by a hyphen. The first part isNG,theISO 3166-1 alpha-2code of Nigeria. The second part is two letters.
