In Search of Mannyis the debutextended playby Americanalternative rockbandLuscious Jackson.[9]The EP was released in 1992 onGrand Royal.[10]It is essentially the band's demo tape, released afterMike DofBeastie Boysheard a copy.[3]It was the label's first release.[11]

The majority of the album was recorded byJill Cunniffand Gabrielle Glaser, withVivian TrimbleandKate Schellenbachappearing on only two tracks.[12]

Critical reception

MusicHound Rock: The Essential Album Guidewrote that the EP "blends girl group pop, hip-hop rhythms, and smooth urban attitude into a unique stew."[5]TheSpin Alternative Record Guidecalled the songs "sweet and sleazy, irradiated by Cunniff's honeyed vocals and Glaser's glacial sass."[7]
