Sindh Sagar Doab(Punjabi:سندھ ساگر دوآب,romanized:Sindh Sāgar Do'āb), sometimes shortened asSagar Doab,is a tract of land in thePunjab region,lying between theIndusandJhelumrivers, in present-dayPakistan.It, administratively, covers a huge portion of the western areas of thePunjab provinceand easternHazara Division.[1]It is one of the five majordoabsof thePunjaband forms the north western portion of the region, covering theHazara Hills,Galyat,Pothohar PlateauandThal Desert.

It coversAttock District,Rawalpindi District,Jhelum District,Chakwal District,Mianwali District,Khushab District,Bhakkar District,Layyah District,Muzaffargarh DistrictandAthara Hazari TehsilandAhmadpur Sial TehsilofJhang District..

Major areas in this doab include theKala Chitta Range,Margallaand Murti Hills,Pothohar Plateau,Salt RangeandThal Desert.

Some major cities of this doab areRawalpindi,Taxila,Attock,Chakwal,Jhelum,Pind Dadan Khan,Talagang,Mianwali,Bhakkar,Layyah,Muzaffargarh,KhushabandQuaidabad.

Of the Punjab doabs, the Sindh Sagar Doab is the largest in land area, but the poorest for agriculture,[2]due to the presence of theSalt RangeandThal Desert.

Doab

The worddoabis of Persian origin, signifying the region between two rivers.[2]According to ShaikhAbu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak,thegrand vizierof the Mughal emperorAkbar,and author of theAkbarnama,the names of the doabs were decided by Akbar.[3]
