Isiah Young(born January 5, 1990) is an Americantrack and fieldathlete who competes in thesprints.He was selected to compete for theUnited States at the 2012 Summer Olympicsin the200-meter dash.
Born inJunction City, Kansas,he attendedJunction City High SchoolthenAllen Community College,competing athletically for both institutions. Young also didweightliftingduring his high school years.[5]At the 2009USATF Junior Olympicshe won a sprint double in the100-meter dashand the200-meter dash.[6]He enrolled at theUniversity of Mississippiin 2010 and took part in collegiate competition with theOle Miss Rebels.He missed the 2011 outdoor season,[7]but in 2012 he won the 200 m at theSoutheastern Conferencemeet with a school record of 20.32 seconds.[8]At theDrake Relays,he won the 100 m and placed second only toWallace Spearmonover 200 m.[9]After this he came fourth in the 200 m at theNCAA Outdoor Championship.[5]
He was disappointed with finished out of the top three at the NCAA meet and changed his focus to the2012 United States Olympic Trials.[10]He finished in third place in the 200 m with a wind-assisted time of 20.16 seconds. Having finished on the podium behind Spearmon andMaurice Mitchell,he guaranteed his selection for the2012 London Olympics.[11]At London, he reached the semifinals.[12]
On May 23, 2013 at theNCAAEast Region Championships, Young joined the10 second clubrunning100 metersin 9.99 with a +0.3 aiding wind.[13]
At the2013 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships,Young qualified for the2013 World Championships in Athleticsby finishing second in the200 meters.His time of 19.86 (+1.6 m/s wind) tied him withDonald Quarrie,Maurice GreeneandJustin Gatlinfor the 24th best performer of all time.
