Israel Lugo(born November 7, 1973) is an American actor, director andLatin Grammy Award-winnermusic video director.Lugo was born inBrooklyn,New Yorkand has credits for directing the documentarySonó, Sonó, Tité Curet!!!(2011) and for acting onMi Dia de Suerte,The Apostate,El ClownandChe.Also he is known for his work withGabriel Cossdirecting music videos forCalle 13,Nelly Furtado,ManáandPaulina Rubio,among others.

Acting career

Lugo began his career as a child actor on several TV shows such asChiquimundo,Los 7 del 7,Los GarcíaandLa Casa de María Chuzema.[1]Lugo also studied psychology at theUniversity of Puerto Ricobefore returning to his acting career appearing onMi Dia de Suerte,The Apostate,El ClownandChe.[1]In 2011, Lugo co-directed the documentarySonó, Sonó, Tité Curet!!!.[2]

Career as music video director

In 2005 Lugo launched 939 films with Gabriel Coss.[1]They directed and produced "Atrévete-te-te"and" La Jirafa ", fromCalle 13'sdebut album.[1][3]Lugo and Coss worked again with Calle 13 on the lead single from their albumResidente o Visitantein 2007.[4]"Tango del Pecado",was shot inPuerto Ricoand it was described as "the story of a catastrophe, a shameless Latin-American version of aRomeo and Juliet-type of love. "[4]The video was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award in2007losing to "Ven a Mi Casa Esta Navidad" byVoz Veis.[5]

Lugo and Coss directed Canadian singer-songwriterNelly Furtado's "All Good Things (Come to an End)",in a video that" finds Furtado frolicking with a male model in Puerto Rico. "[6]About the video, Furtado stated: "It's very tropical and romantic. It reminds me of oldSarah McLachlanvideos, it has that element of art to it. It's kind of like cinema. "[6]Furtado recorded with Calle 13 a remix version of "No Hay Igual"and shot a video inLa Perla, San Juan, Puerto Ricoalso directed by Lugo and Coss.[3]

The music video for "Bendita Tu Luz"by Mexican bandManáfeaturingJuan Luis Guerrawas directed by Lugo and Coss and was shot atSanto Domingoin 2006.[7]Lugo and Coss received a Latin Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video in2009for "La Perla"byCalle 13featuringRubén Bladeswhich was shot atslum of the same name.[8][9]The music video for "Vamo' a Portarnos Mal", included onEntren Los Que Quieranby Calle 13, was directed by Lugo and Coss in 2010, with locations on Las Monjas, Barrio Obrero and Las Gladiolas at San Juan, Puerto Rico.[10]
