Jerrell C. Jones(born March 28, 1986),[1][2]better known by hisstage nameJ-Kwon,is an American rapper fromSt. Louis,Missouri.He signed withJermaine Dupri'sSo So Def Recordings,an imprint ofArista Recordsto release his 2004 single "Tipsy,"which peaked at number two on theBillboardHot 100.It served as the lead single for his debut studio albumHood Hop(2004), which entered theBillboard200at number seven and contained the charting single "You & Me" (featuring Sadiyahh). He departed So So Def after its release, and his subsequent material failed to chart.

Life and career

At age 12, Jones was expelled from his home for allegedly dealing illegal drugs.[1]He slept at his friends' homes and in cars. After winning onerap battle,he suffered a broken jaw from childhood friend Marquise.

J-Kwon first rose to stardom with the single "Tipsy"from his 2004 albumHood Hop,which peaked at number two on theBillboard200on April 17, 2004, after 14 weeks on the chart.[3][4]The song peaked at number two on theBillboardHot 100."Tipsy" also performed well globally, peaking within the top ten of the charts in Australia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom. Other singles included "You & Me" with Sadiyyah and "Hood Hop."

For the 2005 filmXXX: State of the Union,J-Kwon performed the single "Get XXX'd" withPetey Pabloand Ebony Eyez. J-Kwon began working on the follow-up toHood Hop,Louisville Slugger,that same year.[5]He collaborated with comedianAndy Milonakisin "Like Dis", to promoteThe Andy Milonakis Show,and appeared onBow Wow's single "Fresh Azimiz".In 2008, he released a single" Boo Boo "through his own label Hood Hop Music with albumHood Hop 2following the next year exclusively for digital download.[6]Follow-upHood Hop 2.5was released on CD on July 28, 2009. Its first official single was "Louie Bounce (I Smacked Nikki)".[7]

In March 2010, J-Kwon's record label, Gracie Entertainment, said that he had been missing since early February 2010.[8]Later the same month,MTV Newsreported that he had been in touch with the record label, confirming he was alive and well.[9]

J-Kwon released his fourthstudio albumon March 23, 2010, entitledJ-Kwon.[10]

In June 2013, he made a diss track titled "Pushing the Odds" produced by H Snow Beatz towardsOdd FutureandPusha Tafter previous disses from both.[11]
