Jack Cartwright(born 22 September 1998) is an Australianswimmer.

He is scheduled to make his Olympics debut at the2024 Summer Olympicsin Paris on 27 July 2024.

Early life and career[edit]

Cartwright was raised inBiloela, Queenslandwhere during his childhood he would travel toGladstonefor training, moving to the city in 2008 where he trained with the Gladstone Gladiators.[1][2]

After securing a scholarship, Cartwright relocated to Brisbane in 2014 to attend private Lutheran schoolSt Peters College.[2]

At the2016 Junior Pan Pacific Swimming Championships,Cartwright won gold medals in the 200 metre freestyle, 100 metre freestyle (where he set aChampionships recordof 48.91 seconds in the preliminaries), 50 metre freestyle, and the 4×200 metre freestyle relay, a silver medal in 4×100 metre freestyle relay, and a bronze medal in the 4×100 metre medley relay.[3]

He competed in themen's 100 metre freestyleevent at the2017 World Aquatics Championships.[4][5]

At the2018 Commonwealth Gameson theGold Coast,Cartwright won two gold medals as part of the teams who won the 4x100m freestyle relay and the 4x100m medley relay.[2][6]

Cartwright was part of the winning4 x 100 metre relayand the4 x 100 metre freestyle teamsat the2022and2023 World Aquatics ChampionshipsinBudapestandFukushimarespectively, winning a collective total of three gold medals and one silver medal.[7][8]Following this success, Cartwright won another silver medal at the2024 World Aquatics ChampionshipsinDohaas part of themixed 4 x 100 metre freestyle relay team.[9]

Following the2024 Australian Swimming Trialsin Brisbane, Cartwright was named as part of the Australianswimming teamto compete in the2024 Summer Olympicsin Paris.[10]
