James Pettifer

James Pettiferis a British academic, author and journalist who has specialised inBalkanaffairs.

He was born in 1949 inHerefordand was educated atKing's School,Worcester,andHertford College, Oxford.[1]

Pettifer has travelled extensively inGreece,Turkeyand the Balkans and he has written several tourist guides to the region, including theBlue Guide to Albania and Kosovo,one of the few such guides to the area. In the media, he has reported mainly forThe TimesandThe Wall Street Journaland he is a regular broadcaster and commentator on the Balkan countries on both radio and television.[2][3]

His expertise has been employed academically. He was a Senior Associate Member ofSt Antony's College,Oxford, and a visiting professor in the Institute of Balkan Studies, inThessaloniki.[1]He is currently teaching Balkan history at theOxford University Faculty of History.[4]
