James Smith Aitken

James Smith Aitken(7 November 1881[1]– 29 July 1964[2]) was aScottish-born farmer and political figure inSaskatchewan,Canada. He representedHanleyfrom 1944 to 1948 in theLegislative Assembly of Saskatchewanas aCo-operative Commonwealth Federation(CCF) member.

Aitken was born inPencaitland,East Lothian,Scotland to William Aitken and Jane Smith Aitken.[3]He emigrated to Scotland in 1905,[4]when he purchased a farm nearCheviot, Saskatchewanin 1905. Aitken married Elizabeth Goodale. After his wife's death in 1937, he spent some time in Scotland andNew Zealandbefore returning to Saskatchewan. After leaving politics, Aitken spent his winters inVictoria, British Columbia.[2]
