Janet Abramowicz(1930 – 2020) was an American painter and printmaker.

Born in 1930, Abramowicz studied atColumbia Universityand theArt Students League of New York.[1]She also studied at theAccademia di Belle Arti di Bolognawhere she was taught by the painterGiorgio Morandi.[2]Her home wasNew York City.She spent time in Japan and Italy.[3]

Abramowicz lectured on art at Harvard University from 1971 to 1991.[3]In 1975 and 1976 she held residencies atMacDowell.[2]In 1991 she received aGuggenheim Fellowship.[3]in 2004 Yale University Press published her bookGiorgio Morandi: The Art of Silence.[4][5]

Abramowicz died in 2020.[6]

Her work is in the collection of theBritish Museum,[7]and theMetropolitan Museum of Art.[6]Her papers are in theSmithsonian Libraries and Archives.[8]
