Jayden Yen Dumont(born February 24, 2006)[2],known professionally asJaydes(previously known asevvls), is an American rapper, singer, producer, and songwriter fromTamarac, Florida.[3]He is best known for hisSoundCloudreleases, and has gained popularity in theunderground hip-hopscene fromsocial mediaplatforms such asTikTok.[4]He has collaborated with otherundergroundhip-hop artists,[5]includingKA$HDAMI,Riovaz,Rich Amiri,Yung Fazo, and acquainted-artist Yuke.[1]

2019–2021: Beginnings,evvls

Dumont said in an interview that he first started recording music in 2019, claiming he recorded this music inAudacity.[6]In 2020, Jaydes started releasing music toSoundCloudunder the name "evvls".[7][8]He started off with his uniqueFlorida-inspired take on thePluggnBgenre. This quickly rose him to fame in theunderground hip-hopscene in 2021.[9]

2021–2022: Breakthrough,Romanticism

By late 2021, Jaydes began to show extreme versatility in his music by being able to capture different musical atmospheres, from up-tempo music like his hitsingle“slugs”and “scam likely "to more ambient and wavy songs like “vivienne”and “hearts”.With even more of anR&B/indie rocksound with softer vocals that can be seen in his 2022EPromanticism.[10]

2023–present: Production change,Count Up Dracula&Panic

In 2023, Jaydes started making music under themoniker"Mandy".[11]Dumont often collaborated with fellow-artistwifiskeleton.[12]The music was more focused on theIndie RockandPunksound he had been experimenting with, with a lot of the songs using instrumentals byAlex GandAmerican Football.[13]

In December 2023, his song "belikeme?"(released under evvls) was listed byThe New York Timesas one of the best songs of 2023.[14]Jaydes started releasing music under his main profile again in 2024, bringing his experimental sound with him. His production drastically changed to morepunk-focused, with his projectsCount Up DraculaandPanic,in which he claimed in an interview that he's recorded this material live in-studio.[15][16]These projects were met with negative criticism, due to the muddy and raw overall production.[17]He stated that his favorite artist and idol isGG Allin,an infamous punk-rocker.[18]

As a result of his arrest, he has been removed from his label,10K Projects.[19]

Early life

Dumont was born on February 24, 2006 to aHaitianfather and aDominicanmother and was raised inPompano Beach,Florida with two older sisters.[20]He grew up with a passion for music, and started producing and writing music at a very young age.[21]Dumont tookpianolessons in elementary school, and startedproducing beatsin his early teenage years.[22]

At 16, he stopped attendinghigh school,and switched toonline learningin favor of his music, and due to controversies at school.[23][24]

Arrest

On November 3, 2024, a warrant for Dumont's arrest was issued by theBroward County Sheriff's Officeafter a series of screenshots were published by the now-terminatedInstagramaccount@exposingjaydes,allegedly stating that Dumont hadstabbedhis 17-year-old ex-girlfriend in the neck and arms withscissorsand abox cutterwhen she denied sexual intercourse.[25]A week later, on November 10, 2024, 9-1-1 was called on Dumont at aDenny'sinOakland Park, Floridawhen he was observed having a mental episode, wielding aknife.He was arrested at 3:28 a.m.local time,and was charged withattempted murderat arrest.[26]He is currently being held with no bond, and his trial is pending.[22][27][28]
