Jazmin Bean(born 7 February 2003) is an English singer, songwriter, andmakeup artist.Born and raised inLondon,they first gained attention online for their "extreme" makeup looks. They self-released their firstextended playWorldwide Torturein 2019, which was later reissued in 2020 throughInterscopeandIsland Records.Their debut albumTraumatic Livelihoodwas released on 23 February 2024.

Early life

Bean was born to father English singer-songwriter and rock guitaristGinger Wildheartand mother, Angie Adams, a drummer and former member of thepunk rockbandFluffy.[1][2]They haveFilipinoancestry from their grandparents.[3]They have stated that they had "minimal to no friends" and were "often isolated" during high school.[4]

Bean began performing music at age 15. Their first live performance involved them singing while rubbing chicken liver on themself at a bar.[3][5]They released their debut single, "Worldwide Torture", in 2019.[2]They self-released their debutextended play,Worldwide Torture,in October 2019, under their personal labelAswang Birthday Cake.It was later reissued byIslandandInterscope Recordsin November 2020 with six additional tracks.[6][5]A music video for their song "Saccharine", taken fromWorldwide Torture,was also released in October 2019.[7]They've released solo singles, including "Hello Kitty" in December 2019 and[8]"Yandere" in October 2020, and collaboration singles "Princess Castle" featuring Cottontail[9][6]and "Monster Truck" featuring Zheani were both released in November 2020.[10]

In October 2023, Bean announced their debut studio albumTraumatic Livelihood,released on 23 February 2024.[11]

Makeup

Bean became known on social media for their "extreme", "doll-like" makeup looks and pastel goth style, which they have described as "genderless monster".[12][13][9]They first started doing makeup as an early teenager while trying to recreate the looks of theirMonster Highdolls.[5]They run Cult Candy Cosmetics, a cruelty-free,veganmakeup brand.[12][8]

Bean's music has been described aspop metal, pastel goth,[14]trap metal,[15]hyperpop,[8]alt-pop,[6]grunge,[3]andhorror pop.[5]Paper's Jael Goldfine described their music as "freaky", "eerie", and "genre-bending".[7]They have stated that their music is inspired by filmsoundtracks,including those of the 2019 horror filmMidsommarand the 2005 fantasy filmCorpse Bride.[9]

Bean has stated that their style is inspired byHello Kitty,Aswangs,Fraggle Rock,andTim Burtonfilms, and they have described it as a form of escapism.[3][2]

Personal life

Bean is on theautism spectrum.They arenon-binary,more specificallygenderless,and usethey/thempronouns.[16][5]

In 2022, Bean spent several months in arehabilitation clinicfor aketamineaddiction.[17][18]Prior to this, they had written the majority of their debut album while on the drugs, but decided to scrap it and start over after recovering "... to avoid any sense of 'woe is me'".[17]
