Jeziorki[b]is anadministrative neighbourhoodinWarsaw,Poland,located within the district ofUrsynów.[1][2]It is encompassed within two areas of theCity Information System:Jeziorki Północne(North Jeziorki) andJeziorki Południowe(South Jeziorki), and is traditionally divided into two parts:Nowe Jeziorki(New Jeziorki), andJeziorki Polskie(Polish Jeziorki).[3][4]The neighbourhood is a residencial area of lowrise single-family housing.[5]

The village of Jeziorki was founded in the 15th century, via separation from the village of Gramnica, which no longer exists.[2]In 1951, it was incorporated into the city of Warsaw.[6]

Etymology

The nameJeziorkirefers to numerous lakes and ponds located within its boundaries, and can be loosely translated fromPolishas theLittle Lakes.[7]

Throughout history, the name had bee recorded as:Grambnicze circa lacum(1421 rok),Grambnicze dicta Jeszyora(1424),Jezorky alias Grampnicze(1460),Jesyorki(1507),Jezyorky(1521), andJezierkowicze(1533).[8]

History

The village of Jeziorki was founded in the 15th century, via separation from the village of Gramnica, which no longer exists.[2]In the 16th century, it was owned by the Jeziorkowski family of theRadwanheraldic clan.In 1528, together with surrounding farmland, its estate had an area of 50 ha. In 1602, it was part of theCatholicparishbased inRaszyn.[2][8]

The village was destroyed by Swedish forces during theDeluge,a conflict between theSwedish EmpireandPolish–Lithuanian Commonwealthlasting from 1655 to 1660. In the second half of the 17th century, portion of the village, with an area of 9 ha, was bought byWarsawcanonCzyżewski, who then incorporated it into his land estate ofDawidy.In 1729, Jeziorki had 10 households.[2]

At the beginning of the 19th century, to the village begun moving inGermansettlers. Since then, it was divided into two parts: Jeziorki Polskie (Polish Jeziorki), inhabited byPolish people,and Jeziorki Niemieckie (German Jeziorki), inhabited by German people, and later known as Nowe Jeziorki (New Jeziorski). In 1827, Jeziorki Niemieckie were inhabited by 110 people in 10 households.[2]

In 1864, German settles had also founded the village ofLudwinów.It was located to the north of Jeziorki, in the area of current Ludwinowska Street.[9]

In 1905, Jeziorki Niemieckie had the population of 82 people in 12 households, and in 1921, of 80 people and the same amount of households. In 1905, Jeziorki Polskie had the population of 209 people in 13 households, and in 1921, of 194 people in 19 households.[2]

In 1936, at the current crossing of Karczunkowska Street and Gogolińska Street, was opened theWarszawa Jeziorki.In 1962, to the north, at Baletowa Street, was also opened theWarszawa Dawidyrailway station. Both are operated to the present by thePolish State Railways,and are part of therailway line no. 8,between stationsWarszawa ZachodniaandKraków Główny.[10][11]

On 24 March 1946, was opened thePyry Cemetery,located at Łagiewnicka Street, within the currentCity Information Systemarea of Jeziorki Północne. It is operated by theChurch of Saint Apostles Peter and Paul,located in the nearbyPyry.[12][3]

On 14 May 1951, Jeziorki and Ludwinów were incorporated into the city ofWarsaw.[6]

In 1996, there were established administrative neighbourhoods of Jeziorki and Etap, as two subdivisions of themunicipalityofWarsaw-Ursynów.Both neighbourhoods continued to exist following the replacement of the municipality by district ofUrsynówin 2002. Their status was reconfirmed in 2013. The neighbourhood of Jeziorki has an arra of 816 ha, and encompasses area betweenWarsaw Metrobranch line,and in a line west from its crossing with Karnawał Street, Czempińska Street, Farbiarska Street, Klarnecistów Street, Sarabandy Street, Karczunkowska Street,Puławska Street,and the boundaries of the district of Ursynów. The neighbourhood of Etap has an area of 9 ha, and is anenclavesurrounded by Jeziorki. It's located between Dawidowska Street (also including building adjusted to its northeastern side), Karczunkowska Street, and the tracks of therailway line no. 8.[13][1][14]

In 1998, the district of Ursynów was subdivided into the areas of theCity Information System,with neighbourhoods of Jeziorki and Etap together being encompassed within areas of Jeziorki Północne (North Jeziorki), and Jeziorki Południowe (South Jeziorki). They are separated by Baletowa Street.[15][16]

Between 2015 and 2023, at 568 Puławska Street was constructed thePolish OrthodoxChurch of St. Sophia of Holy Wisdom.It was the first Orthodox Church to be constructed in Warsaw, in over 100 years.[17][18]

Jeziorki is an administrative neighbourhood inWarsaw,Poland,located within northwestern portion of the district ofUrsynów.It has an area of 816 ha, and encompasses area betweenWarsaw Metrorailwaybranch line,and in a line west from its crossing with Karnawał Street, Czempińska Street, Farbiarska Street, Klarnecistów Street, Sarabandy Street, Karczunkowska Street,Puławska Street,and the boundaries of the district of Ursynów.[1]The neighbourhood of Etap, with an area of 9 ha, forms anenclavesurrounded by Jeziorki. It is located between Dawidowska Street (also including building adjusted to its northeastern side), Karczunkowska Street, and the tracks of therailway line no. 8.[14]

Administrative neighbourhoods of Jelonki and Etap are together encompassed within theCity Information Systemareas of Jeziorki Północne (North Jeziorki), and Jeziorki Południowe (South Jeziorki). They are separated by Baletowa Street. They borderDąbrówka,Grabów,andPyry.Their southern and western boundary forms the border of the city, with the municipality ofLesznowolainPiaseczno County,and the municipality ofRaszyninPruszków County.[3]

Jeziorki mostly consists ofsingle-family detached houses.Its portion also includes farmlands.[5]

According to theNational Registry of Administrative Subdivision of State Territory,in the neighbourhood are located two localities: Nowe Jeziorski, and Jeziorki Polskie.[19]While, according to theNational Registry of Geographical Names,it contains the following localities: Dawidy Zwykłe, Dawidy Poduchowne,Ludwinów,Jeziorki, Jeziorki Północne, Jeziorki Polskie, Jeziorki Południowe, Nowe Jeziorki, andZgorzała nad Jeziorem.[4]

In the neighbourhood operate two railway stations. They areWarszawa Jeziorkistation, located at the crossing of Karczunkowska Street and Gogolińska Street, andWarszawa Dawidystation, located at Baletowa Street. Both are operated to the present by thePolish State Railways,and are part of therailway line no. 8,between stationsWarszawa ZachodniaandKraków Główny.[10][11]

At 568 Puławska Street is located thePolish OrthodoxChurch of St. Sophia of Holy Wisdom.[17]Additionally, at Łagiewnicka Street is placed thePyry Cemetery,operated by theCatholicChurch of Saint Apostles Peter and Paul,located in the nearby neighbourhood ofPyry.[12]

Within Jeziorki is also located theZgorzałalake, as well as numerous ponds, those being:Czyste,Nowe Ługi,Kądziołeczka,Krosno Pond,Łużek,Szyja Pond,andWąsal.Through the neighbourhood also flow two artificial waterways:Grabów Canal,andJeziorki Ditch.[20]
